Lance Corporal Simon Maloney from The Blues and Royals has been awarded his conspicuous Gallantry Cross which is one of the highest miltary honours.
Lance Corporal Maloney was shot in the neck during an ambush in Afghanistan as they began to search for targets in July last year. Maloney showed huge courage as he continued to fight the Taliban and as he was being taken to the helicopter and was still shouting critical information to his comrades. Maloney praised the other soldiers stating that he would not have survived had his fellow soldiers not done their job so well, however, without Maloney’s courage many more of his comrades would have been critically injured.
We are all astounded by this outstanding bravery and so proud that Lance Corporal Maloney has been awarded The Gallantry Cross.
