On Thursday 30th April 2015 in a display of military fitness, 10 soldiers from the Household Cavalry Regiment will be taking part in what is considered to be one of the hardest single day athletics events in the world; the Ironman Distance Triathlon.
Starting with a brisk swim in Lulworth Cove (next to the Royal Armoured Corps Training Centre where all soldiers in the regiment complete their training) the guys will swiftly move onto their bikes and cycle across the country to the Combermere Barracks in Windsor… From here the final leg of the race with consist of a brisk run to the Knightsbridge Barracks!
With no additional training, so as not to take the soldiers away from their duties, the soldiers will complete the gruelling 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26.4 mile run, all in less than 17 hours.
Friends, family and anyone who would like a fun day out, if you are in any of the three locations; Lulworth Cove, Windsor or Knightsbridge on the 30th April we encourage you to come along and show your support. It will be much appreciated when the aching muscles and tiredness kick in!
Please visit their Just Giving page https://www.justgiving.com/hcrironmen and help HCR reach their fundraising target of £500. All donations would be hugely appreciated and will go towards the soldiers, casualties, veterans, horses and heritage of the Household Cavalry.
