The Household Cavalry Regiment has been putting British Army equipment through its paces in Canada. Exercise Prairie Storm 4 has seen the British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS) ranges ring out with the sound of Scimitars, AS90’s and small arms fire. The Household Cavalry Regiment kicked off the exercise with their Scimitars zeroing their barrels on the ranges.
HCR is permanently based at Combermere barracks in Windsor and provide the Army’s Formation Reconnaissance. Formation Reconnaissance troops are an essential capability in the battle for information and battlefield intelligence. They gather information by stealth, both from vehicles and on foot – seeing without being seen. Formation Reconnaissance provides commanders with information 24 hours a day in all weather conditions. Patience, nerve and cunning are the essential characteristics of the reconnaissance soldier. Recce’s constant flow of information helps commanders decide what forces are needed and where to defeat the enemy.
